Giving back is an important part of the fabric of who we are. We raise funds annually for the Alec J. White Memorial Scholarship, which benefits graduating seniors in our community, and also serves to raise awareness for suicide prevention and mental health in memory of our beloved Alec. Additionally, we support NAMI New Hampshire, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), and The Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs, Inc. by giving an annual donation based on our company profits. We thank you for helping us with this commitment! We chose NAMI New Hampshire and the AFSP because we are passionately and personally invested in eliminating the stigma around mental illness, and ensuring that everyone has access to resources and support. We chose The Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs because, well, we love dogs – and supporting their training as therapy animals combines that love with our commitment to mental health.
The Alec J. White Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to two graduating Merrimack Valley High School students who wish to pursue a career in mental health, human services, or the trades.
Alec was a remarkable and unique kid, and not just because he could do a back flip as easily as most of us can take a step. He is the driving force behind a lot of what we do as a family, and as a company. Raising funds for this scholarship in his name has been an important part of keeping his memory alive for us, as is raising awareness about suicide prevention and mental health. The mission of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is to “save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.” Also from their website (www.afsp.org), “… the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death.”
From their website (www.nami.org), “NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. [We] work in your community to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need.” Clearly Balanced Days gives specifically to the New Hampshire chapter of NAMI.
The Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs, Inc. “is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to training, evaluating and qualifying people and their well-behaved dogs as therapy dog teams.
