GIVING BACK

Giving back is an important part of the fabric of who we are.  We support NAMI New Hampshire, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), and Canine Commitment of New England by giving an annual donation based on our company profits.  We thank you for helping us with this commitment.  We chose NAMI New Hampshire and the AFSP because we are passionately and personally invested in eliminating the stigma around mental illness, and ensuring that everyone has access to resources and support.  We chose Canine Commitment of New England because, well, dogs make life better.

National Alliance on Mental Illness

From their website (www.nami.org), “NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. What started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979 has blossomed into the nation's leading voice on mental health. Today, we are an association of more than 500 local affiliates who work in your community to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need.” Clearly Balanced Days gives specifically to the New Hampshire chapter of NAMI.

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

The mission of the American  Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is to “save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.” Also from their website (www.afsp.org),    “Established in 1987, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death. AFSP is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide … by engaging in the following core strategies: funding scientific research, educating the public about mental health and suicide prevention, advocating for public policies in mental health and suicide prevention, [and] supporting survivors of suicide loss and those affected by suicide in our mission.”

Canine Commitment

As they say on their website, “Between [our] two locations, and a wonderful group of volunteers that help us care for the dogs, advertise the dogs, and  process applications,                                           Canine Commitment  is saving hundreds of lives each year – and we continue to grow each year! Our dogs primarily are advertised on Facebook and Petfinder. We adopt dogs throughout the New England area. We rescue all sizes, shapes, breed mixes, and degrees of fluffiness in our rescue. Unlike most rescues in our area, we do not adopt dogs sight-unseen! Our dogs are not posted on Petfinder until they are here in NH and available to meet prior to committing to adopt. We encourage you and the members of your household to meet a pup before deciding if it is the right fit for you!”

Alec J. White Memorial Scholarship

Alec White was both quiet and mischievous, sharp-witted and gentle. He had a quick grin and a love of nature and adventure – he was always exploring, climbing trees and even buildings. He loved skate boarding, downhill skiing, and any situation where he could do flips in the air or walk a slack line. He was creative, full of ideas, and kind – the sort of person who would see a lonely kid on the edge of the basketball court and ask him to join in the game.

Alec also fought an internal battle with depression, and though he fought hard, and those he loved fought for him, he lost that battle in November of 2017.

Clearly Balanced Days keeps Alec’s memory alive on a daily basis by supporting others through education and understanding, as well as through our dedication to helping people achieve wellness physically and mentally with our products – but we wanted to do something more, something that would spread his message clearly, and hopefully help someone in the future.

The Alec J. White Memorial Scholarship Fund was created for this purpose, with two $1000 scholarships to be awarded annually to graduating Merrimack Valley High School students who wish to pursue a career in mental health, human services, or the trades. Alec would be happy to know that he had a part in helping people pursue their passions, as well as their desire to help others through their career.
